Human beings are social creatures and we aren't meant to live alone. Modern society in the West has left too many people alienated and over-focused on work and career. I like the Catholic idea of vocation: that most people will find stability and fulfillment either in a committed marriage raising a family or in a community or guild of some kind, perfecting themselves through acts of service to the common good.
